| what is senryu? Senryu poetry, invented in 18th century Japan, is a humorous variation on ancient haiku. Both share the concise form of 17 syllables in 3 lines, but for different ends. While haiku looks to a zen awareness of nature, senryu highlights human follies — inviting giggles, gasps and guffaws!
Since its beginning, senryu has favored erotic themes, satirizing human sexual situations of all kinds.
